This is truly an outstanding site and definitely deserves a visit. rat haus reality is another truly comprehensive site, dedicated to providing information about the health costs of man-made low-level ionizing radiation. The site hosts the work of Dr. John Gofman and many important articles and entire books by others including the work of Dr. Jay Gould, Ernest J. Sternglass and Dr. Rosalie Bertell. The complete text of Sternglass's Secret Fallout is available, as is the excellent book Killing Our Own. Much more is at this site. Once you start visiting it, you will go back time and again. Snake River Alliance The Snake River Alliance is an Idaho-based grassroots group working through research, education, and community advocacy for peace and justice, the end to nuclear weapons, responsible solutions to nuclear waste and contamination, and sustainable alternatives to nuclear power. Since 1979 the Alliance has worked to protect Idaho's
people, environment, and economy Nuclear-Free Future This site, besides offering clear warnings of the dangers of the nuclear age, provides information about the Nuclear-Free Future Award. The Nuclear Waste Citizens Coalition unites 16 different groups working on various aspects of the nuclear waste problem. This broad coalition includes anti-nuclear power groups, nuclear reactor communities, peace activists, nuclear weapons opponents, groups from contaminated DOE facilities, residents of sites targeted for nuclear waste dumps, and national environmental groups. Seven organizations have now formally joined the coalition under the new category of Friends of NWCC. The Prairie Island Coalition (PIC) was sparked in 1990 by Northern States Power Company plan to store high-level nuclear waste in the flood plain of the Mississippi River. PIC is now a coalition of 30 organizations. Information about the Prairie Island situation, the dangers of dry cask storage, and discussion of various other problems associated with nuclear power are available at this site. Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility (CCNR) is dedicated to education and research on all issues related to nuclear energy, whether civilian or military -- including non-nuclear alternatives -- especially those pertaining to Canada. This is another outstanding site with much detailed information. Downwinders is a research and educational foundation, taking its name from the residents living in the prevailing wind pattern surrounding the Nevada Test Site, and who have been constantly exposed to radioactive fallout from America's nuclear testing activities conducted there. The Environmental Defense Institute (EDI), in conjunction with the INEEL Research Bureau, is actively involved with issues involving the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). EDI advocates for environmentally sound nuclear policy decisions and seeks to provide citizens with the resources that will enable them to make informed choices regarding these issues. Their journal, INEEL NEWS (Environmental Defense Institute News and Information on Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory) deserves particular attention. The Low Level Radiation Campaign has numerous articles demonstrating the adverse health effects of low doses of radiation. Also on-site is the journal Radioactive Times, news stories with the emphasis on Great Britain, and a thoughtful discussion of The Second Event theory. This theory was first propounded by Dr Chris Busby in Wings of Death. The theory argues that when certain radioactive isotopes are incorporated and immobilised in body tissue, their initial decay initiates cell cycle repair/replication sequences, then further decay damages the cells' repair mechanisms. Life on Earth is imperiled by human degradation of the biosphere. The Earth Island Institute develops and supports projects that counteract threats to the biological diversity and cultural diversity that sustain the environment. Through education and activism, these projects promote the conservation, preservation, and restoration of the Earth. Earth Island Institute (EII) was founded in 1982 by David Brower to foster the work of creative individuals by providing organizational support in developing projects for the conservation, preservation, and restoration of the global environment. Shundahai Network was formed at the Nevada Nuclear Test Site in 1994, by a council of long-term nuclear disarmament activists, at the request of Corbin Harney, a Western Shoshone Spiritual Leader. We have evolved into an international network of activists and organizations bridging the gap between the environmental, peace and justice and indigenous land rights communities. Government Accountability Project is a great resource for information about whistleblowing, governmental wrongdoing and official misconduct. Most of the information is oriented towards nuclear issues. The Government Accountability Project was originally created to help employees who tell, those through their individual acts of conscience, protect each and everyone of us. The Greenpeace No Nukes site is a terrific source for on-going Greenpeace International campaigns; as well as for their excellent articles on what they call The Pathways To Destruction, From Uranium Mining to Nuclear Weapons. Other topics covered include the global effects of nuclear technology and viable alternatives to nuclear power. The World Information Service on Energy The World Information Service on Energy (WISE) was set up by safe energy activists in 1978 as an international switchboard for local and national safe energy groups around the world to exchange information and support. Information is spread by WISE relays in 12 countries (see address list) and a worldwide network of contacts. WISE primarily covers topics related to the nuclear industry, such as new developments in policy and technology, nuclear proliferation, accidents and activities of local movements. WISE International also publishes the Wise New Communique 20 times a year. The Women's International League of Peace and Freedom (WILPF) works to create an environment of political, economic, social and psychological freedom for all members of the human community, so that true peace can be enjoyed by all. WILPF's first International President was Jane Addams, founder of Hull-House in Chicago and the first US woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. WILPF contends that all problems that lead countries to domestic and international violence are all connected and all need to be solved in order to achieve sustainable peace. The
Bulletin of Atomic Scientists In May 1946, Einstein, one of the
Bulletin's godfathers, wrote: "The unleashed power of the atom has changed
everything save our modes of thinking, and thus we drift toward unparalleled
catastrophe." The goal of the Bulletin is to render that famous quote
obsolete. The Bulletin's mission has been-and continues to be-education
in the broadest sense. The Campaign sponsors research, undertakes publication of relevant literature, organizes non-violent direct action, and lobbies Government and statutory bodies for revision of radiation risk factors and the release of relevant information. Proposition One is a grassroots movement for disarmament of all nuclear weapons, and conversion of the nuclear and other arms industries to provide for human and environmental needs. A bill now in Congress, the "Nuclear Disarmament and Economic Conversion Act," has been introduced into the House of Representatives each session since it won an election in Washington, DC in September, 1993.
